Hearts in Glorantha is a licensed fanzine for Glorantha, which covers both the 2nd Age and 3rd Age of Glorantha. Both d100 (RQ2/RQ3, Mongoose RuneQuest, BRP) and HeroQuest systems are supported. It aims to produce a diverse set of articles in each issue, written by fans old and new of the setting. The emphasis being on material that is usable in your games. Two issues every year, Summer and Winter.
I am aiming to have the next issue out by Dragonmeet UK in early December.
Submissions, both articles and art, to newt@d101games.co.uk

Newt,
Getting the next issue out in time for DM seems like a pretty aggressive publishing schedule. Or maybe not, since you don't have the same write/playtest/rewrite/repeat process of a full on game to worry about and also multiple creators must speed things up a bit.
Can you talk a bit about the process and timing of putting something like this together? It's a very different animal from the usual stuff people here publish.
Also, how are the profits split among the creators?

Rich
It is an aggressive schedule, but with most of the pressure on me!
Here's a rough break down on how this works;
1. I make a 'Call for Content' via the Gloranthan yahoo groups (World of Glorantha and HQ-RPG) and sympathetic forums (Basicroleplaying and the Tavern).
2. This includes a submission deadline, which is going to be roughly mid-oct for issue 2.
3. Potential authors then email me a 500 max synopsis of what they are going to submit. I can forward this to my artists and also use it for
promotional purposes.
4. They then make their submissions, I give it the once over as do my proof readers.
5. Then Mid Oct it all goes to layout as art starts dribbling in.
6. End of Oct first draft layout goes to proof readers, then
7. Beginning of November off to Lulu proofs and then a small (~50 issues) print run. Out of this I'll sort out contributors and liscensors (Greg Stafford, Mongoose, Moon Designs - i.e. Gloranthan pubishers) copies (~20 copies) for Dragonmeet. Obviously if I'm not aiming to have printed copies for a con this takes the pressure off time wise.
8. Once print run has sold out (remaining copies to be sold via website) make available via Lulu.com, early December.
There is no profit share amoungst the creators - since this is very much a not-for profit venture. I'm keeping the costs of the print/pdf as low as possible and aiming to cover costs, with perhaps a little bit of profit to act as a cushion for future issues and pay for my time on it. This is established practice amongst Gloranthan Fan Publications, with what little money being made being plowed straight back into the magazine. Creators retain the copyright of their work, and often Fanzine contributors are hired by the Gloranthan publishers and their work reused and paid for then.
