Conventions and Events - Concrete Cow 10

Milton Keynes RPG Club are holding another of their games days on 20 March 2010.

WHO?
We're Milton Keynes RPG Club. Find out more about us at http://www.mk-rpg.org.uk.

WHEN?
Saturday 20 March 2010. Doors open at 9.00am, first games start at 10.00am. We'll finish at 11.00pm.

WHAT?
Any roleplaying or board game. You want to play it, bring it along and run it. Previously we've had on offer 3:16, Amber, Call of Cthulhu, Cold City, Dead of Night, Dogs in the Vineyard, GURPS, Gwenthia, HeroQuest, Hollow Earth Expedition, Hot War, Landston, Mouse Guard, Mythic Russia, Primetime Adventures, Savage Worlds, Spycraft, Tekumel, Trail of Cthulhu, Transhuman Space, True20, Vampire, and some more that I've forgotten. Latest updates will be posted on the Concrete Cow website.

WHO'LL BE THERE?
Dave Blewer of Triple Ace Games will be a Guest of Honouor. Dave is a freelance writer with nearly 30 years of role-playing experience and creator of Sundered Skies. He has been a published author since 2000 and has written for Atlas Games, Arcdream Publishing, Oriflam, and Pinnacle Entertainment. Dave lives in on the edge of a dank marsh in the East of England. His three kids are a constant source of wonder and horror.

Robin Elliott, Production Editor of Triple Ace Games, should also be attending. We'll chain them to a table to run games of Savage Worlds-based fast, furious, and fun games!

There should be at least one more Guest of Honour in the pipeline, so stay tuned for further announcements.

We will have three excellent traders at the event: the Collective Endeavour, Leisure Games, and Reaper's Revenge. Bring along lots of money to give to the people with the shiny merchandise!

Members of the Concrete Cowncil, MKRPG's convention gaming arm, will be in attendance to run all sorts of funky games.

And, of course, there's all the fantastic games you'll bring along and run. If you let us know what you're planning to run, we'll put it on the Concrete Cow games page.

(Note that for child protection reasons, under-16s will need to be accompanied by an adult at Concrete Cow.)

Regular trains to Milton Keynes run from London Euston station. The nearest station to the con is Wolverton (one stop north of Milton Keynes Central), about five minutes' walk away.

HOW MUCH?
£5.00, payable on the door. This'll cover the cost of hiring the hall.

I'm pleased to announce another Guest of Honour! Rich Stokes, publisher of Umläut: Game of Metal and member of the Collective Endeavour, will be a Guest of Honour at Concrete Cow 10 on 20 March 2010. Expect lots of over-the-top Metal music mayhem as the bands battle out for fame and fortune!

We're also getting some game offers listed on the Concrete Cow games page. If you're thinking of offering a game, drop me a line and I'll add it to the list.

On the subject of games, I'm willing to run short demos of CE games in the cracks between gaming sessions. I don't normally get many takers, but I get a few.

If you have a demo you'd like me to run, let me know and I'll add it to the pile on offer!

That's very generous of you Neil, thanks. It's a shame I won't be able to make it to CC this time round. With some kind of cosmic irony, I will actually be very close by, in Oxford, that weekend.

Concrete Cow seems to be a great success, showing that a small, grass roots convention really can be a thriving, long term venture. I'd be interested, Neil, to hear your perspective on that.

A new thread would be great. I'm interested to hear your point of view on how to make a small con a success, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the format, how do you manage relations with participants, games companies, other interested groups such as CE, do you see CC as a template for other local conventions? All that kind of thing. I, and many others, would certainly be very keen to hear what you have to say.

Only a few days to go to Concrete Cow and... things seem to be pretty much in hand. Which is worrying; there must be something I've forgotten to do...

The venue is all set, and we've even been told we can have the basement room from the off this time (the tutoring group that did have it has moved on to pastures greener). The Guests of Honour have confirmed they're coming, as have the traders. Unfortunately, Robin Elliott of Triple Ace Games won't be able to make it. The list of games on the Concrete Cow games page is looking healthy (and it's not too late to add your wonderful game to the list).

We're all set, so we just need a bunch of gamers to turn up and have a great time in Milton Keynes.

I've just had a phone call from Dave Blewer, one of our Guests of Honour. Unfortunately, Real Life has reared up and bitten him, so he won't be able to attend Concrete Cow tomorrow. It's a shame, and both he and I are sorry for any disappointment this may cause.

That just means Rich Stokes will have to work that much the harder to fulfil a double-dose of Guest of Honour duties! I'm sure he'll be up to the task.
